Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Clubhouse a drop-in center?
No, Katie’s Place Clubhouse is not a drop-in center. We are a membership-based program operating within the Clubhouse Model of Psychiatric Rehabilitation.
How do I become a member?
You will need to ask your doctor to complete and sign a referral packet. Since the Clubhouse is a voluntary program, you will also need to sign it. Then we will contact you to come take a tour and go through New Member Orientation before you commit.
If I am interested in becoming a new member, how will I get to the Clubhouse?
We explore all possible means of transportation with potential members. We also will have a van to assist in transportation. The goal is to support our members in utilizing public transportation to the Clubhouse (we WILL provide bus passes).
Who is eligible to become a member?
Any Lackawanna County or Luzerne County resident resident who is 18 years or older with a primary mental health diagnosis is eligible for referral to Katie’s Place Clubhouse.
Do I have to come every day?
No, members may come on the days that fit their schedules. You can attend as many (or as few) days as you wish.
I don’t know that I am ready to get a full-time or part-time job. Do I have to get a job if I come to Clubhouse? And will my Social Security be affected if I do get one?
No. We have some members who have no intention of getting a job right now, and that is okay. Katie’s Place Clubhouse still offers a place to come to socialize and do the tasks to keep the Clubhouse running. As for your Social Security, you will work with our Clubhouse staff to ensure that your income does not get cut, even with a job! It will work to your advantage financially to get one though if you choose.
If I do not come for a month, can I still come back?
Absolutely! In fact, we will stay in touch with you through Reach Outcalls and letters/cards so that you know we are thinking of you and miss you. “Once a member, always a member!”
